In some parts of the world, traditional food is gradually being replaced by fast food, and this trend is having a negative effect on families and society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this belief? Fast food is becoming increasingly dominant, taking over the place of traditional food worldwide. Some people believe that this trend affects families and society adversely. While there may be some valid arguments against this idea, I strongly agree with it for several reasons. On the one hand, when looked at from a financial standpoint, fast food is benefiting families. This type of food is usually more affordable than traditionally cooked meals, meaning that people can save money on their daily expenses when eating out. Given that many parents have full-time jobs and children attend extracurricular activities after school, which is all done outside the home, fast food can prevent people from facing financial pressure, as they do not need to allocate a fortune for themselves and their children. On the other hand, fast food may cause various problems in many aspects of life. Weakened family bonds can be the first negative effect of this growing trend, because traditional food takes much longer to prepare, and many family gatherings take place while cooking a special meal, allowing people to have quality time with their family members. As this is not the case with fast food, which implies that it is cooked ‘fast’ by its name, some people cannot be encouraged to have family time, influencing their personal relationships negatively. Additionally, since some fast foods are rich in sugar and fat, people may gain excessive weight and experience health problems like obesity as a consequence of their fast food consumption. This can increase the likelihood of people being exposed to health issues like diabetes and cardiovascular issues, making their family members concerned about their health and subject to depression and anxiety as a result. In addition, this phenomenon may have detrimental repercussions on society as well. A healthy workforce is the backbone of economic and industrial growth, but when a country has a growing number of unhealthy people, it may undergo a number of problems. One is the lack of labour force in different industries, as employee absence may become more common because of the problems workers are having with their well-being. The second issue can be seen in the healthcare sector, which may see a huge rise in the number of its patients, experiencing overwhelming pressure in the end. This may reduce the quality of healthcare services for the general public and require immense spending from the government as well. In conclusion, fast food may prevent people from excessive financial spending. However, I still contend that people’s ever-increasing preference for fast food may have adverse implications for the strength of family ties and the quality of public services, particularly in the healthcare sector.
Nowadays, many celebrities are famous for their glamour and wealth rather than their achievements, which may set a negative example for young people. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this belief? Some people believe that today’s celebrities have a detrimental impact on the youth because all they showcase are their attractive appearance and materialistic possessions rather than their hard-work ethic or personal accomplishments. While there may be some arguments against this idea, I strongly agree with it for several reasons. On the one hand, this trend may encourage people to stay disciplined and overcome challenges in their lives. After seeing the high living standards of others, people are likely to achieve such financial levels themselves as well. This can push them to perform to their best and attain different milestones in their academic, professional, and personal lives, reaching financial independence in the end. Therefore, it can be concluded that however materialistic celebrities may seem, they influence young people positively in indirect ways. On the other hand, this trend is highly likely to contribute to distorted value systems. Young people may develop unhealthy materialistic values because celebrities, who are often the most influential, constantly show their consumerist habits, encouraging people to think that people’s personal possessions and financial success are superior to important personal qualities like determination and perseverance. In other words, people may become used to an unhealthy consumerist culture that celebrities may foster in the future, and their priorities may not feature important traits like a hard-work ethic. Additionally, this phenomenon may have detrimental implications for young people’s mental well-being. Due to constant exposure to luxurious lifestyles with extravagance, young, seemingly unsuccessful people may start comparing their personal accomplishments to those they see online, even without noticing or considering their own individual circumstances. Such unhealthy comparisons may cause problems like anxiety and depression in people’s lives, subjecting them to mental health problems, as has been the case after the rise of social media platforms. Statistics have suggested that mental health issues have skyrocketed after the 2010s, which exactly coincided with the creation of social media websites. Based on this, many psychologists and psychiatrists argue that people have developed mental health problems after using social media, where they may feel unsuccessful. In conclusion, today’s famous individuals may serve as a source of motivation for some because they can be encouraged to achieve financial success in their lives. However, I still contend that this trend has more downsides, as it can erode healthy value standards and leave people with deteriorated mental well-being.

The two images show how the layout of the first floor of a library looked in two different years: 2001 and 2009. Overall, the space used to have basic facilities and sections for books of limited genres. In contrast, by 2009, the ground floor had undergone a significant transformation in terms of the number of genres of books it could offer, and modern amenities were added, modernizing the space, though some parts of this floor remained unchanged. In 2001, people could access a few facilities and genres of books. The entrance point to the building was at the bottom, immediately after which a librarian’s desk could be found. Library visitors could access the upper floors through stairs based on the left of the entrance. The left side of the ground floor was occupied by self-help and history books, neighbouring the fiction books section that was at the top. In the middle of the space, there were eight tables for visitors, opposite which newspapers and periodicals could be found on the right. Following the redevelopment plan, the first floor of the library experienced one of its most notable changes in terms of the book genres there, catering to the needs of readers with different tastes, and the only places that were left untouched were the entrance, the librarian’s desk, and the stairs. The left-hand section of the space was now dedicated to different types of books, giving little space to the once-dominant self-help and history books, and having separate sections for books in these areas as well – fiction, kitchen, economics, and law. The area for fiction books was repurposed for children’s books, and near it was a specifically designated area for children. The tables in the middle were also all removed, and four new ones in larger sizes were installed. The other changes took place in the area for newspapers and periodicals, which were replaced by films and DVDs, and right beside this were newly installed computers, reflecting the modernization of the space.
