  • | Reality hits you more when alone... | ⠀ You see when we’re occupied with dunya related matters for example spending time with our brothers/sisters we tend to be in a state where we forget about the reality of life... ⠀ For example we forget about death completely... ⠀ Think about the last time you thought about death, majority of us will come to realise it was at a quiet time for example during the night while everyone is asleep and it hits you much more differently at these hours. ⠀ Why? ⠀ Because we’re alone with ourselves contemplating on our sins/life problems which brings the thought about death where we all need to depart this world one day and enter that tight little grave! ⠀ Night time is the best time to get closer to our lord because it’s at these times we tend to think a lot and contemplate over how weak we’re as human beings and how much we actually need Allah. ⠀ It’s at these times where the true muslim will become more humble and submitting to his lord as the darkness of the night reminds him/her of the dark grave and the excruciating punishments in the hereafter... Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them. (32:16) ⠀ May Allah make us amongst the successful in the hereafter and may he bless you all! ⠀ Ameen Via aspiringmuwahid

“How much more can one be deprived? - than one who, for example has a smartphone and airpods in his ears - doing nothing useful! Yet he’s deprived from tapping a screen that will allow him to listen to the word of Allāh, that will purify his heart and mind, and ease these dunya difficulties, and bring him closer to Allāh.”

  • -Another sign: Being deceived by people's praise of you and enjoying hearing it, feeling at ease with it. Beware, as this could be a form of deception. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Sincerity in the heart cannot coexist with the love of praise, fame, and the desire for what people possess, just as water and fire cannot coexist." End of his statement. -A fourth sign: Neglecting the deeds of the heart. One must purify their soul, monitor their heart, and deal with all the pride and conceit that arises. One must hold themselves accountable, as the soul loves to be praised and seeks recognition. -Another sign: Being heedless of one's own faults, shortcomings, and negligence. One must see their flaws, be aware of them, and remember them, so as not to be deceived by people's praise. If you have learned, how much do you still not know? If you have fought one battle, how many battles have you missed? If you have memorized something, how much have you forgotten? If you have been guided to goodness, how much goodness has escaped you? If people praise you, it is because they are ignorant of your faults, for if they knew them, they would not praise you. -Another sign: Looking down on those below you. Vanity sneaks into the heart, and one's attitude says: "I am a student of knowledge; others don't even know the basics." "I possess this and that, while others don't." "I fast, and others can't manage it." "I am a Murabit, while others sit comfortably at home." -Another cause and sign of vanity: Feeling safe from Allah's plan. Feeling secure in one's faith, thinking one is guaranteed to remain steadfast, and believing one’s own faith will always protect them. Beware, servant of Allah, for you could be led astray after receiving guidance. You were guided by Allah's grace, and if He withdrew His guidance, you would go astray. Al-Bayhaqi narrates in Shu’ab al-Iman from Jubayr ibn Nufayr: "I entered upon Abu Darda in his home in Homs, and he was standing in his mosque praying. When he sat to recite the tashahhud, he sought refuge in Allah from hypocrisy. When he finished, I said, 'May Allah forgive you, O Abu Darda! What do you have to do with hypocrisy?' He said, 'May Allah forgive me three times. Who is safe from trials? Who is safe from trials? By Allah, a person may be tested for an hour and turn away from his religion.' We seek refuge in Allah from that." Al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "By Allah, no believer wakes up or goes to bed without fearing hypocrisy for himself. And no one feels safe from hypocrisy except a hypocrite." -Another sign of vanity: Love of fame and prominence. It was narrated from Ibrahim ibn Adham: "A servant is not truthful with Allah until he loses his love for fame." -Another sign of vanity: Envy. The vain person dislikes seeing others praised. The cure for this is to love for your brother what you love for yourself. There is much more to be said about vanity, and perhaps Allah will allow for another opportunity to elaborate. Allah knows best.

  • Question: What is vanity regarding [good] deeds, and how can one rid themselves of it? Answer: Vanity (al-‘ujb) is a dangerous disease and a destructive illness. May Allah protect us, you, and the listeners from it. Vanity in one's deeds is something few people are safe from, and it creeps into the hearts of even the righteous in a subtle manner. However, Allah, by His mercy, protects whomever He wills. If this disease is not fought, uprooted, and its roots cut, it will continue to grow and expand, eventually turning into arrogance, pride, and boastfulness. Arrogance includes vanity, and vanity is a cause of arrogance. There is no doubt that vanity sneaks into the heart of a servant when they perform good deeds, and it is further fueled by the praise they receive from others. As for its signs and how to rid oneself of it, we say: -The first sign: One sees their own deeds as great to the point where it seems to them that they are unique in their piety, knowledge, courage, or intelligence. For example, a man who regularly fasts on Mondays and Thursdays begins to admire his ability to fast, comparing himself to others who rarely fast, leading him to become conceited. In Tadhkirat al-Huffadh by Imam al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, Abu Wahb al-Marwazi said: "I asked Ibn al-Mubarak about arrogance, and he said: 'It is to disdain people.' I asked him about vanity, and he said: 'It is to see that you possess something others do not.'" Al-Bayhaqi narrates in Shu’ab al-Iman from Ishaq ibn Khalaf, who said: "Nothing breaks the back of Iblis more than a son of Adam saying, 'I wonder how my fate will end.' At that point, Iblis despairs and says, 'When will this one become vain about his deeds?'" -The second sign: Ignorance that Allah, Exalted and Glorified, is the One who guided you to this virtue and made it easy for you. You will find the vain person saying: "I did this, I accomplished that, I read this, I researched that, I memorized this, I fasted, I fought, I stood in prayer at night"—and so on—forgetting to attribute the favor to Allah. Allah Almighty says: "When harm touches man, he calls Us, but when We bestow a favor upon him, he says, 'This has been given to me because of [my] knowledge.' Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know" (Qur'aan 39:49). This means the person claims they achieved it through their own efforts, forgetting Allah's guidance. The cure for this trait is to be grateful to Allah for the blessing and attribute it to Him: "Whatever you have of favor—it is from Allah" (Qur'aan 16:53), and "If not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been purified, but Allah purifies whom He wills" (Qur'aan 24:21).

  • I saw a post saying; "Many men say they only like natural women with no make-up but then they'll look after women with tight clothes, make-up, fake lips, etc. This is why some women stop being like they should be and instead start copying these women and start acting like them." This is true for some, unfortunately. However still many out there who don't. Furthermore I elaborated on this point which has been on my mind; a lot of females tend to do the same with a beard on a man. Men also try and trim it, and some even shave.., way too short because they appear better in the eyes of others (particularly females) which leads to less men actually growing out their beard fully to a fist length at the minimum. Men then too start to copy these males because of females going after these types of guys. And I believe this to be true. It's no excuse, however if the women started to appreciate bigger beards more even if it looks 'less good' to the eyes, that he follows the Sunnah and doesn't fall into Haraam by trimming or shaving should appear more beautiful to the eyes and this would motivate and help the brothers! Indeed our eyes have been tainted. A call to every brother; grow out your beard fisabilillah, I swear by Allah it is better for you. And a call to every sister; wear the proper Hijaab and cover yourself and avoid tabarruj, I swear by Allah it is better for you. Shaykh Sa'di (رحمه الله‌‎) said; "Allah has honoured men with beards wherein their beauty and dignity exists. So woe to the one who shaves it or abuses (styles) it, and disobeys His Messenger( ﷺ) openly." [الفواكه الشهية ص ٧٣] To each of us, muslim or muslimah, that a brother or sister fee Deen follows the Sunnah and obligations and doesn't fall into Haraam should be the concern. Not that that he or she looks 'better' and thus doing Haraam and disobeying His Messenger ( ﷺ) publicly. That's how grave the matter is! Not only do we sin by doing such but we do it publicly and disobey him publicly for everyone to see! Contemplate on this for a moment. Indeed I can direct this message of Shaykh Sa'di (رحمه الله ) to women just the same; "Allah has honoured women with the (proper) Hijaab wherein their beauty and dignity exists. So woe the the one who does not adhere to it or engages in tabarruj (make-up, eyebrow plucking, etc), and disobeys Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) openly." We have to change our perspective, get rid of that which our eyes have been tainted with. To all my sisters; I swear by Allah just because you think you'll look less good in the proper Hijaab, know that in the eyes of real men who are on Haqq this is absolutely the opposite. And this is the only type of man you should attract in the first place. To all my brothers; I swear by Allah just because you think you'll look less good with a grown-out beard (even if it's patchy/not full), know that in the eyes of real women who are on Haqq this is absolutely the opposite. And this is the only type of woman you should attract in the first place. This way we all motivate each other to goodness. May Allah [سبحانه وتعالى ] allow us to follow and obey His and His Messenger's (ﷺ)guidance. May Allah عز وجل forgive us all and remove that which our eyes have been tainted with and rectify all our affairs. والله أعلم. Repost by @satiysaa
