Q. Are we permitted to go outside and watch the eclipse? A. 🌑 When the Sun Is Eclipsed — This Is Not a Celebration! An eclipse occurs when the light of the sun or moon is obscured. But for the believer, it is not merely an astronomical event to gather outside, watch, photograph or celebrate. It is one of the signs of Allah, a sign by which Allah causes His servants to fear Him. When a solar eclipse occurred during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, his response was not excitement or entertainment. Abū Mūsā رضي الله عنه narrated that when the sun eclipsed: “The Prophet ﷺ got up in a state of fear, thinking that it might be the Hour.” He ﷺ hurried to the Masjid and stood in a long prayer, prolonging his standing, bowing and prostration. He then said: “These signs which Allah sends do not occur because of the life or death of anyone, but Allah causes His servants to fear by them. So when you see anything of that, hasten to the remembrance of Allah, supplicate to Him and seek His forgiveness.” — Bukhārī This was the response of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: fear, prayer, duʿā’, dhikr and istighfār. And he ﷺ commanded: “When you see them, supplicate to Allah and pray until it becomes clear.” — Bukhārī ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها described how the Prophet ﷺ prolonged the eclipse prayer, with lengthy standing and bowing, until the eclipse had cleared. So an eclipse is not an Eid, a holiday or an occasion for entertainment. We have no guidance from the Prophet ﷺ teaching us to go out merely to watch and enjoy it. Rather, his Sunnah teaches the believer to recognise the seriousness of Allah’s signs and turn immediately back to Him. The same Prophet ﷺ who received revelation feared that it might be the Hour. What, then, should our condition be? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the best and most knowledgeable of creation concerning Allah, the most God-fearing of mankind, and our perfect example. Yet when he ﷺ witnessed the eclipse, he became fearful and hastened to prayer. Allah تعالى said: ﴿لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ﴾ “Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ﷺ) you have a good example to follow…” — Sūrah al-Aḥzāb, verse 21 So if we truly love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we follow him. We fear when he feared, we pray as he prayed, and we respond to the signs of Allah as he taught us to respond. Guidance is not found in following our feelings, customs or what people have turned an occasion into; guidance is in following the footsteps of Muhammad ﷺ. When Allah displays one of His mighty signs, let our first response be the response of His beloved Messenger ﷺ: Hasten to the prayer. Remember Allah. Seek His forgiveness. Give charity. Make duʿā’. And fear the One who controls the sun, the moon, the heavens and the earth. 🌑 What should a Muslim do during an eclipse? The Sunnah is to turn to Allah with: • Ṣalāt al-Kusūf — the eclipse prayer. • Duʿā’ and dhikr — remembering Allah and calling upon Him. • Istighfār and tawbah — seeking Allah’s forgiveness and sincerely repenting. • Ṣadaqah — giving charity. • Fear of Allah — remembering that these are among His signs and that the Hour is a reality. — Shaykh Musa Jibril حفظه الله https://t.me/LightOfTheTruth

🌿 The Sunnah of Speaking Good or Remaining Silent 🌿 The tongue is one of the smallest limbs, yet one of the most powerful. It can be heavy upon the scale, or it can become a cause of a person’s destruction. Many sins begin with a single word. Many hearts are broken by a single sentence. Many people will regret words they never thought twice about. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.” — Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim How many friendships have been destroyed by a careless word? How many families have been divided because of a sentence that should never have been spoken? Silence is not weakness. Often, it is wisdom. The believer weighs his words before they leave his tongue, knowing that every word is recorded. Allah says: ﴿مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ﴾ “Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).” — Surah Qāf 50:18 The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.” — Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī & Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim Notice: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the tongue before the hand. A wound inflicted by the hand may heal, but a word can remain embedded in a heart for years. Words can travel further, reach more people, and leave consequences long after they were spoken. The Prophet ﷺ also gave one of the greatest promises found in the Sunnah. He guaranteed Paradise for guarding two things that people often struggle to restrain: “Whoever guarantees for me what is between his two jaws (his tongue) and what is between his two legs (his private parts), I guarantee for him Paradise.” — Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī Before speaking, ask yourself: Will these words please Allah? Will they benefit someone? Would I be pleased to see them written in my book of deeds? Never underestimate a word simply because it seemed insignificant when it left your mouth. The Prophet ﷺ said: “A servant may utter a word pleasing to Allah without giving it much thought, yet Allah raises him by many degrees because of it. And a servant may utter a word displeasing to Allah without giving it much thought, yet because of it he falls into Hell.” — Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī Muʿādh ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Will we really be held accountable for what we say?” The Prophet ﷺ replied: “May your mother lose you, O Muʿādh! Is there anything that topples people on their faces—or he said, on their noses—into the Fire except the harvest of their tongues?” — Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī A guarded tongue is a sign of a guarded heart. Sometimes, the most beautiful speech is the speech that was never spoken. The righteous predecessors understood this well. ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه said: “By Allah, besides Whom there is no deity worthy of worship, nothing deserves to be imprisoned longer than the tongue.” Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله beautifully wrote in al-Dāʾ wa al-Dawāʾ: “How amazing is the tongue! A small piece of flesh, yet no limb is more obedient if it is upright, and no limb is more rebellious if it goes astray.” And al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رحمه الله said: “The tongue of the believer is behind his heart. When he wishes to speak, he first reflects. If it is for him, he speaks; if it is against him, he remains silent. But the hypocrite’s heart is behind his tongue. He says whatever comes to his tongue.” So pause before you speak. A moment of silence may save you from years of regret. Let your tongue be occupied with the remembrance of Allah, Qurʾān, truth, kindness and words that mend hearts rather than break them. If there is goodness in your words, speak. If there is no goodness in them, then let your silence become an act of worship. The tongue is small, but its account is great. Allah is With the Broken Heart There are wounds that no eye can see. A smile may conceal them. A voice may hide them. But Allah knows every crack in every heart. The broken heart is never abandoned by Allah. It is often the closest heart to Him, because it has nowhere else to turn. ﴿مَا أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِاللَّهِ يَهْدِ قَلْبَهُ﴾ “No calamity befalls, but by the Leave (i.e. Decision and Qadar) of Allah, and whosoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart.” — [Surah At-Taghabun 64:11] When Allah guides the heart, He does not always remove the trial. Rather, He fills the heart with certainty, tranquility, and reliance upon Him. The heart is not a small part of you, it is the king of your body. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Verily, in the body there is a piece of flesh which, if it is sound, the whole body is sound; and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted. Verily, it is the heart.” — Bukhārī & Muslim Guard your heart more than you guard your wealth. Do not allow hatred, jealousy, envy, rancor, or revenge to settle within it. The people of Paradise are those whose hearts are purified. Allah says: ﴿وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ﴾ “And We shall remove from their breasts any deep feeling of bitterness (that they may have), (so they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones.” — [Surah Al-Hijr 15:47] A heart filled with Allah has no room for the diseases that destroy souls. Perhaps your wings feel broken today. Perhaps you feel exhausted from carrying burdens no one knows except Allah. Do not think your brokenness distances you from your Lord. It may be the very reason you are nearest to Him. Allah does not look at your appearance or your possessions. He looks at your heart. And Allah praises those who truly benefit from His reminders: ﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ﴾ “Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.” — [Surah Qāf 50:37] Your heart may be wounded, but do not let it become hard. A broken heart that turns to Allah is far more beloved than a proud heart that feels no need of Him. Keep returning to Allah. He is the One who mends what no one else can mend. May Allah heal every broken heart, purify our hearts from every disease, fill them with īmān, contentment, sincerity and love for Him, and make us among the people of Paradise whose hearts are free from hatred, envy and rancor. ❓Question I have a neighbour who regularly visits the graves of those whom people call Awliyā’ Allāh. Whenever he visits, he places cloth and flowers upon their graves. I have advised him repeatedly and explained to him that these practices are impermissible. When I asked why he does this, he replied that he does not ask the dead for anything. Rather, he visits them because they are Awliyā’ Allāh and seeks their intercession. I believe this is clear shirk, and I have presented the evidence to him on several occasions, yet he continues to visit these shrines. Today he is holding an ʿaqīqah for his newborn son and has invited me. The animal is being slaughtered by a butcher, not by him personally. As far as I know, when he performs the sacrifice of ʿEid al-Aḍḥā, he slaughters in the Name of Allah alone and not in the name of anyone besides Him. Is it permissible for me to accept his invitation? I was thinking of politely declining, saying that I cannot attend the gathering of one who associates partners with Allah. At the same time, I wondered whether attending may provide an opportunity to call him and the other attendees to Tawḥīd. What is the correct approach according to the Qur’ān and the authentic Sunnah? ⸻ Answer The basic principle regarding one who worships graves is that he is to be shunned and kept at a distance, because he has fallen into shirk and kufr. Whoever directs any act of worship to other than Allah is a disbeliever and a ṭāghūt and we are required to denounce ṭāghūt and its people. لَآ إِكْرَاهَ فِى ٱلدِّينِ ۖ قَد تَّبَيَّنَ ٱلرُّشْدُ مِنَ ٱلْغَىِّ ۚ فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ لَا ٱنفِصَامَ لَهَا ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيم Allah said: “There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Tāghūt and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” — Al-Baqarah 2:256 Likewise, Allah commanded us to disavow both shirk and its people, just as Ibrāhīm عليه السلام declared. قَدْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ إِذْ قَالُوا۟ لِقَوْمِهِمْ إِنَّا بُرَءَٰٓؤُا۟ مِنكُمْ وَمِمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَفَرْنَا بِكُمْ وَبَدَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْعَدَٰوَةُ وَٱلْبَغْضَآءُ أَبَدًا حَتَّىٰ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَحْدَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَوْلَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ وَمَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍۢ ۖ رَّبَّنَا عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِير Allah said: “Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah; we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred forever until you believe in Allah Alone.’” — Al-Mumtaḥanah 60:4 However, if accepting such an invitation will genuinely provide an opportunity to call them to Tawḥīd and the truth, then the ruling depends on the circumstances. It depends on your knowledge, your ability to clarify the truth, and whether there is a real hope of benefit without compromising your religion. As for my recommendation, I would not deal with grave worshippers. Today the truth is well known. Knowledge has become easily accessible. The Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and the explanations of the scholars are available to anyone who sincerely seeks guidance. People can access the truth with ease, and this is why many even from among Christians and others embrace Islam after learning Tawḥīd through the abundant knowledge available today. هَـٰذَا بَيَانٌۭ لِّلنَّاسِ وَهُدًۭى وَمَوْعِظَةٌۭ لِّلْمُتَّقِين Allah said: “This (the Qur’an) is a plain statement for mankind, a guidance and instruction to those who are Al-Muttaqūn (the pious).” — Āl ʿImrān 3:138 And He said: وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِر

🌿 Sunnah Gems Sit Down When You Drink The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would drink while sitting, and he forbade drinking while standing. Although standing may be permitted in certain circumstances, the regular Sunnah is to sit. Sitting reflects dignity, composure, and adherence to the example of the Prophet ﷺ—even in the smallest of daily habits. The Prophet ﷺ said: “None of you should drink while standing.” — Sahih Muslim The Prophet ﷺ commanded the one who drank standing to vomit. Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “None of you should drink while standing. Whoever forgets, let him vomit.” — Sahih Muslim However this is not to be taken literally as an obligation to induce vomiting. Have good expectations of Allah in all your affairs. When you ask Allah, ask Allah with firm determination and good expectation of the outcome. You are supplicating to a Lord who smiles.
