Developments in Sudan are once again proving the futility of the efforts by the warring sides to bring about a conclusive military victory against one another. Despite General Burhan’s much touted military gains against the RSF the last few weeks, the RSF on its part is now turning the tide against Port Sudan with its latest recapture of Kurmuk and Qaisen in Blue Nile State. What will unfold tomorrow and the day after is anybody’s guess. Towns and garrisons will certainly be shifting hands every other week, depending on a number of variables. But there is one constant: the misery of the people of Sudan gets worse by the day. More testerone is not the solution: both sides should come to terms with the fact that talking, not shooting, is the only game in town. This was our message to General Burhan last time we paid him a visit in Port Sudan. No amount of external support from state or non-state actors is going to make much of a difference. The international community needs to get its acts together to help the generous people of Sudan regain the peace they so richly deserve 🔗 Getachew K Reda on X

☢️ DR. TEDROS TEREFE & “ARMY 70”: A DOCTOR, A WAR, AND THE QUESTION OF ACCOUNTABILITY A detailed investigation by Dr. Gessesew Wendm, a general surgeon and CEO of the Welkait Tegede Tellemt Amhara Scholars Association, raises serious allegations concerning Dr. Tedros Terefe, formerly associated with Humera General Hospital, and the armed group referred to as “Army 70,” which the author identifies as a TPLF-affiliated force operating from Sudan. The article examines several interconnected issues: 🔻Continue below

—❗️🇸🇦/🇾🇪 NEW: Ansarallah (Houthi) forces have captured the towns of Al-‘Uraysh and Mafraq Al-Mukha, on the 423 Road to the port city of Mokha On the northern front, they have cut off the Taiz-Al Hodeidah Road south of Hays, in the Al-Khawkha sector. @Middle_East_Spectator
🇾🇪After a week of intense attacks on Saudi-backed mercenaries, the Houthis have launched a ground offensive against the strategically important port city of Mocha on the Red Sea coast. In the past 24 hours, they have advanced several kilometers, capturing a number of settlements. The front line had been largely static since the late 2010s, but now the offensive has resumed. The loss of Mocha would be a significant blow to the Saudis and their Yemeni allies, while the Houthis would be able to strengthen their control over the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. It is likely that the Saudis will make efforts in the coming days to halt or at least slow down the Houthi advance. Furthermore, it is expected that the Houthis may also launch an offensive in the province of Marib in the coming days, which is strategically important for the control of Yemen by the occupying forces. @Slavyangrad
🥷🏽 The signing of the defense agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in Mecca on August 7 was presented as the possible birth of a new security architecture for the Islamic world. The pact establishes that an attack against any of the three countries will be considered an attack against all of them, creating a principle of collective defense. Although its signatories officially deny that the agreement is directed against any specific state, it is difficult to ignore the strategic logic behind the initiative. The most plausible hypothesis is that an anti-Iran triangulation is being attempted, built upon two fundamental precedents: the existence of Iran as a common adversary and the possibility of turning Sunni identity into the foundation of a military alliance. This would directly benefit the United States and Israel, countries currently at war with Iran. It is no coincidence that the announcement of the alliance comes shortly after the NATO Summit in Ankara, when hostilities against Iran were resumed. The problem is that both elements are much more fragile than they appear. 💬 Read more by Lucas Leiroz 🔔 Stay tuned 🚀 Subscribe 🌐 Join us on VK
🇮🇱 On June 10, 2025, two executives from Microsoft France appeared before a French Senate investigative committee tasked with examining public procurement and digital sovereignty. The hearing proceeded in the usual reassuring tone until a question that completely shifted the mood: Could the company guarantee that the data of French citizens – even if hosted on servers located in France – would never be transferred to a foreign authority without the consent of the French government? Anton Carniaux, the subsidiary’s director of public and legal affairs, responded under oath with six words: “No, I cannot guarantee that.” That statement cut through years of corporate rhetoric built around phrases such as “local cloud regions”, “reliable infrastructure”, and “data residency”. France could host the servers, French citizens could generate the data, and French institutions could pay for the service – yet ultimate authority could still reside elsewhere. The commission drew a clear conclusion. Microsoft was unable to guarantee sovereignty over the data it hosted. That exchange reveals a reality with specific consequences, including – and perhaps above all – for West Asia: the physical location of data no longer coincides with its political location. 💬 Read more by Lorenzo Maria Pacini 🔔 Stay tuned 🚀 Subscribe 🌐 Join us on VK
☢️🇪🇹America offers Ethiopia a nuclear manual. Russia offers a nuclear future Ethiopia wants its first nuclear power plant operating within the next decade and has brought American and Russian regulators into the programme. The two countries, however, are offering very different things. ❓Why does Ethiopia need nuclear power? About 90% of Ethiopia’s installed generating capacity comes from hydropower. Drought has already pushed its dams below their stated output. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has greatly expanded Ethiopia’s generating capacity, but it has also deepened the country’s conflict with Egypt. 🇪🇬Cairo fears that Ethiopian control over the Blue Nile could restrict downstream flows during a prolonged drought. 🇪🇹Addis Ababa rejects this. Nuclear power would diversify the grid and reduce Ethiopia’s dependence on rainfall and hydropower. It could also create an entirely new industrial sector for the country. 🇷🇺 Rosatom is already building Ethiopia’s possible future in Egypt Rosatom is constructing Egypt’s first nuclear power plant at El Dabaa: four VVER-1200 reactors with 4.8 GW of combined capacity. All four units are under construction. El Dabaa will be Africa’s first new nuclear station since South Africa’s Koeberg was completed nearly 40 years ago. The International Atomic Energy Agency describes Rosatom's turnkey package: Russia is providing credit for 85% of the construction cost. Rosatom is responsible for design, construction and commissioning, long-term fuel supply, spent-fuel storage, personnel training and maintenance support. Around 55% of contracts and subcontracts are localised. More than 18,000 Egyptians work at the site. First fuel is expected in 2027 and grid connections from 2028. Ethiopian officials do not have to imagine what the Russian model looks like. It is being built next door. 🔎 What Russia is offering Ethiopia Rosatom’s strategic roadmap, signed on 31 March, covers two 1,200 MW reactors, feasibility studies, site selection, technology transfer and workforce development. A feasibility study is already being prepared for a Russian-backed Nuclear Science and Technology Centre. Ethiopian students have also been offered scholarships to study nuclear engineering in Russia. A country entering nuclear power needs engineers, operators, regulators, universities and local suppliers years before the first reactor starts. Rosatom includes those capabilities in the project. It can also supply the fuel needed to keep the station operating for decades. 🇺🇸 The American project does not exist Washington has announced no reactor, construction loan, fuel contract, training programme or localisation plan - only the rules for licensing, inspections and nuclear safety. Keeping the Americans involved still makes commercial sense. Addis Ababa can use their presence to demand a lower price, better financing, more Ethiopian contracts and deeper technology transfer from Moscow. But there are no two projects competing for Ethiopia. There is a Russian project and an American manual. Chat | Subscribe to @geo_grandmasters

🔺Continuation from above 🇪🇹 THE SECOND POST GOES EVEN FURTHER 🔗 https://t.me/rnintel/65510 Later, after reporting the alleged capture of Geissan, the channel wrote that the development: “effectively reinforces allegations that Ethiopian territory is being used as a staging ground for RSF operations.” Again, the wording subtly moves the reader from: “there is an allegation” to: “the event reinforces the allegation” and eventually toward: “Ethiopian territory is being used by the RSF.” But does the capture of Geissan independently establish that? No. Geissan's location near the Ethiopian border tells us where the fighting occurred. It does not by itself establish where the attacking forces came from. And this is precisely why readers should be careful. 🔎 LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE, NOT JUST THE CONFIDENT WORDING There is a serious ongoing dispute over claims that Ethiopia has been providing the RSF with a training/staging facility. Reuters reported in February that a site in western Ethiopia was an RSF training camp and alleged UAE involvement. But that investigation was subsequently challenged in detail by ABREN, which argued that the satellite imagery and logistics were more consistent with a large-scale gold-mining/worker-camp operation. The point here isn't that one should automatically believe ABREN instead of Reuters. The point is that the evidence is contested. Yet #RerumNovarum's August 11 posts effectively treat the Ethiopian-territory connection as established background knowledge. That is exactly where readers need to slow down. ⚠️ THIS IS NOT ABOUT DEFENDING THE ETHIOPIAN GOVERNMENT And before someone deliberately misunderstands the argument: 🔹This is not saying Ethiopia cannot be involved. ▪️If credible evidence emerges that RSF forces crossed from Ethiopian territory, that should absolutely be reported. ▪️If Ethiopia is facilitating RSF operations, that should be investigated and exposed. But an allegation is not a fact simply because it fits an existing geopolitical narrative. The burden of proof becomes even more important when the allegation concerns a sovereign state being used as a military staging ground in an ongoing regional war. 🧩 THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM: SELECTIVE SCRUTINY The same caution should apply to all sides. There are well-documented and widely reported regional networks surrounding Sudan's war involving the SAF, Egypt, Eritrea, Tigrayan actors and other armed groups. There are also documented questions surrounding Sudanese gold moving through Egypt, regional military training and the involvement of external powers. ▪️Some of these relationships are established. ▪️Others are allegations. ▪️Some remain highly contested. That distinction should never disappear simply because a particular narrative is politically convenient. If we demand evidence before accepting claims about Egypt, Eritrea, SAF or Tigrayan actors, we should demand the same evidence before accepting claims about Ethiopia and the RSF. 🔻Continue Below

⚠️ WHY YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL WITH RERUM NOVARUM’S POSTS ON THE ETHIOPIA–SUDAN WAR If you follow #RerumNovarum, pay attention not only to what they report, but to how they turn disputed claims into apparently established facts. A good example is their coverage of the fighting around Geissan on August 11, 2026. In one post, Rerum Novarum stated: 🇸🇩🇪🇹⚡ “The Rapid Support Forces, RSF, have launched another offensive from Ethiopian territory…” 🔗https://t.me/rnintel/65505 Notice the wording. It does not say Sudanese authorities allege that the attack came from Ethiopian territory. It does not say according to a Sudanese military source. It does not say the claim has not been independently verified. It states it as a fact. That distinction matters enormously when reporting on a war. 🔻Continue Below
