  • Students Federation of India (SFI) Central Executive Committee Press Release 08/07/2025 Kerala Governor should restrain from the attempt to destroy the higher education in Kerala. The Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India salutes the comrades of the four major universities of Kerala namely, Kerala University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Calicut University and Kannur University, for leading massive protests against the unethical involvement of the state governor, who is also the chancellor, in the administration of the Universities. Hundreds of students gathered in each of the universities simultaneously, expressing their dissent on the actions of the governor. Over twenty five comrades were arrested, including SFI Kerala State Secretary comrade P S Sanjeev and CEC member comrade Adarsh S K. SFI will continue the struggle until and unless the governor withdraws from the attempts to destroy the higher education. The Union government under the BJP-RSS is using governors in the opposition parties ruled states to topple down the administration there. In Kerala, which has set the most successful model in education in the country, has been targeted by the BJP-RSS. The governor, who is also the chancellor of the universities, is not appointing permanent vice chancellors as per the laws and instead trying to drive the university from back seat using temporary vice chancellors who are not committed to the cause of the betterment of higher education in the state. The chancellor along with the temporary VCs he appointed, are bypassing the democratic bodies of the universities like the university syndicate to terminate democratically appointed university staff and to appoint his dear ones. The BJP-RSS is using governors as a tool to destroy the secular character of the universities and inject their communal agenda in education. It is also part of their larger agenda to destroy the federal character of the country and to communalise the education system. This attempt by the BJP-RSS will not be allowed by SFI. SFI will intensify the struggle to resist the communal agenda of the BJP-RSS from the higher education system of Kerala. SFI warns the governor to withdraw from this unethical behaviour or else he will witness the heat of massive student protests in the coming days also. SFI CEC pays revolutionary greetings to the students who took part in the struggle. Released by Adarsh M Saji (President, SFI) Srijan Bhattacharyya (General Secretary, SFI)

  • Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Central Executive Committee Press Release 09/07/2025 The Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India condemn the arrest of SFI general secretary, comrade Srijan Bhattacharyya and other comrades in Kolkata, who supported the nation wide workers’ strike called jointly by the major trade unions in the country. The working class in the country has called for a united action against the BJP-RSS lead union government for their grave anti-workers policies including the labour code. SFI has supported the working class of the country in their struggle against the corporate favouritism by the BJP government at the centre. The Union government and the BJP lead state governments have tried to suppress the workers struggle. This has unmasked their anti-workers character in broad day light. The TMC government ruling in West Bangal, who have not supported the workers’ strike, has tried to curb the struggle using brute force within the state. The TMC government is behaving like a junior partner of the BJP ruling at the Centre. SFI condemns such actions, and will remain in support of the working class in their struggle against crony capitalism lead by the BJP-RSS ruled union government. Released by Adarsh M Saji (President, SFI)

  • The Central Executive Committee of the Student's Federation of India strongly condemns the Proctorial Board Regulations published by Pondicherry University administration. The regulations dangerously concentrate power in the hands of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor, giving them unchecked authority to impose arbitrary punishments and clamp down on student voices. The punitive measures listed—including denial of food, scholarships, and academic results—go far beyond the legal framework laid down in the Pondicherry University Act, 1985. They are not only unconstitutional but also in blatant violation of fundamental rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. This constitutes a direct attack on constitutional rights by criminalizing expression, silencing dissent, and imposing restrictions on protests, meetings, cultural events, and help-desk activities. This situation is strongly indicative of ideological bias and authoritarianism aligned with the Sangh Parivar. The penalties extend beyond legal boundaries, denying access to essential services, withholding results, and character certificates. It is a dangerous shift towards authoritarianism within a democratic educational space and anti-student in spirit but also unconstitutional and contrary to the ethos of a free, fair, and inclusive academic environment. These restrictions reflect a clear attempt to dismantle the traditions of collective organising and critical engagement that define any democratic campus. Instead of fostering dialogue and support, these measures create an atmosphere of fear and control, targeting vulnerable students and suppressing voices that speak truth to power. The Proctorial Board Regulations represent more than just administrative actions; they reflect the fascistic centralization currently taking place on university campuses in India under the regime led by the Sangh Parivar. This trend is evident nationwide: labeling dissenting voices as anti-national, suppressing student organizations, and transforming campus life to align with the Hindutva ideological agenda. The SFI Central Executive Committee strongly condemns and appeals Pondicherry University administration for immediate withdrawal of the Proctorial Board Regulations. • Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Central Executive Committee Press Release | 09-05-2025 *Ensure the safety of students and the common people in the violence affected areas.* The current situation in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat raises concern. Along with the local people in these regions, students from various parts of the country have been studying in these places. Currently, schools and many educational institutions have been closed considering the situation. But, the students are unable to travel to their homes due to inadequate affordable avenues. In several institutions, students’ have not been allowed to leave as well. In this scenario, we request the Central and State governments to intervene to provide facilities for students so that they could join their family at the earliest in these turbulent times. We also request the government to provide transportation facility and relocate the common people in affected and vulnerable areas. Today, SFI General Secretary, Mayukh Biswas, along with joint secretary, Adarsh M Saji and S. Shilpa visited the Punjab Central University in Bathinda and students inside the campus. Last night, Pakistan army carried out a drone attack in Bathinda, Punjab, but the Indian Army successfully thwarted the attack. The incident occurred near the hostel of the Central University of Punjab. SFI leaders also met the university authorities requested their intervention to shift the students to safe places. Further, measures should also be taken to avoid any further escalation of the situation into a war that leads to civilian damages and to bring peace in the region, which is also in the larger interest of the country. Terrorism is a major threat to humanity and should be resisted by the peace loving people and countries across the world unitedly. Equally the military option cannot be any single and unilateral option. In this situation, we request the government to take steps to restore peace in the region immediately and ensure the safety of the students.
