  • Andy Burnham has made it crystal clear that his ‘new’ regime will be more of the same deepened austerity and accelerated war drive. So why do Britain’s self-identifying CPB ‘communists’ continue to insist that a ‘change’ is taking place that can and will benefit the working class? https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/07/news/cpb-still-struggling-against-reality-andy-burnham-war-drive/

  • On the centenary of his birth, we are recirculating the article we wrote at the time of Comrade Fidel Castro’s death ten years ago. His is a legacy that continues to live on in the hearts and minds of revolutionaries all over the world. Fidel Castro gave his life to the service of his people; his was indeed a life well lived. Nobody expected tiny Cuba to survive after the collapse of the USSR, and it is to the undying credit of Comrade Fidel, the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban masses that they held firm through all the difficulties of those days. Despite the setbacks our movement has suffered in recent decades, Cuba and its socialist example continue to light a beacon for Latin America and the oppressed world, assuring us of the correctness of our cause and the bright future that awaits humanity when imperialism has been finally defeated. https://thecommunists.org/2016/10/01/news/farewell-comrade-fidel-castro-eternal-glory-to-you/

  • A contribution from an Italian nurse to the international workers’ event hosted by the World Anti-imperialist Platform in July 2026. In it, he describes how he and colleagues founded an anti-genocide organisation in their hospital, and how its work grew from small beginnings. "We decided we could not remain silent about the destruction of healthcare and the genocide taking place, which explicitly targets the medical sector. Not only was genocide taking place, but the right to healthcare was being explicitly denied. "The first thing we started to do was to support various movements that were emerging in Italy. As workers at Cardarelli, we decided to bring these national initiatives directly into our own hospital. These initiatives began with fasts. "Let’s say our goal was to start raising awareness among workers about what was happening internationally. We initially started with fasts, even simply going out to hand out flyers. I started after another colleague had begun, and then another colleague followed. "Initially there were just a few of us. We started handing out flyers and attaching them near the time clock of the initiatives that were being held, and we saw that people were starting to respond; there was a strong response." https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/12/tv/napoli-health-workers-standing-against-genocide/

Our general secretary Comrade Ranjeet Brar speaks at our recent celebration of anti-imperialist solidarity. In his eloquent and insightful message, he touches upon the true history of the great historical events of 26 and 27 July 1953: the attack on the Moncada Barracks in Cuba and the DPRK’s victory in the Fatherland Liberation War. He recounts their true history and how that is distorted today. And he draws out the relevance to today’s global situation – of capitalist crisis, escalating war, resurgent fascism, genocidal zionism and the wars of the Anglo-American imperialists to further conquer and suppress the world by force. As well as the heroic resistance of the socialist nations of the DPR Korea and tiny but defiant Socialist Cuba, Ranjeet pays tribute to the Palestinian people, the Axis of Resistance in the middle east, and in particular the Iranian and Russian people, who are engaged in an existential fight for survival against the aggressive wars launched by our Labour government on behalf of the British capitalist ruling class and their US imperialist partners in crime. The British workers must stand in solidarity with all peoples in struggle. As our capitalist ruling class is driven toward global war to keep its moribund and crisis-ridden system alive, the only answer to the troubles of the working people is to break all ties with the imperialist Labour party and finish it entirely. Only then will a really mass party of the working class, taking an independent political line in the interests of the working masses in Britain and of the wider world, be possible. We must learn to turn – as Fidel so ably did, in his trial after Moncada – the repressive apparatus of the state into a trial of the repressive, unjust and monstrously inhuman capitalist system itself. We must strip our ruling class of all legitimacy in the eyes of the British workers and demonstrate to them that their true interests do not lie among the path of continuing colonial war, genocide, ultranationalism, racism, deepening poverty and destruction. But that another future: a bright, cooperative, equal, hopeful and just socialist future, is possible and within our grasp. Our demands most moderate are: we only want the earth! https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/09/tv/ranjeet-brar-revolution-not-a-tea-party/

As was the case in the English and French revolutions before them, while their cause was a progressive one insofar as it sought liberation from British colonial rule, it did so in the interests not (as it claimed) of ‘all men’ but of the property-owners. Likewise, it fought not for universal ‘freedoms’ and ‘equality’, but for the freedom and equality of bourgeois men. The enslaved population accounted for one-fifth of the population at the time of the revolution. Indeed, most of the freedom-loving Founding Fathers were slaveowners. The ‘inalienable rights’ trumpeted in the declaration thus did not apply to the slave population, to native Americans, to women, or to the propertyless working masses. The replacement of one set of exploiters by another has, of course, been the aim of every revolutionary movement up until the time of the Paris Commune and the October Revolution, which for the first time brought into view the prospect that humanity might finally achieve liberty, democracy and genuinely equal access to all the things that make life fulfilling and worthwhile. Nevertheless, by moving the wheel of history forward, by breaking the fetters of feudal or colonial regimes, the bourgeois revolutions that ushered in our present capitalist era were both necessary and progressive, opening the road for the vast development of humanity’s productive forces, which in turn is the necessary precondition for our further advance to socialism and communism. What is not true is that these revolutions were the ultimate end-point of our history, or that they established genuine freedoms for all, as their myth-makers would have us believe. Under the banner of ‘equality for all’, a new ruling class replaced the colonial regime, leaving workers, enslaved and indigenous peoples subject to intense exploitation and ever-growing inequality. https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/08/news/usa-250-lessons-in-bourgeois-democracy/

Addressing our recent spirited anti-imperialist event was the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) embassy representative Comrade Yong Ri. In his speech he gave a vivid sketch of the current international situation in the world and outlined the strong socialist policy of the Workers Party of Korea leadership and DPRK people, which has enabled the nation to maintain its sovereignty and independence in the face of the unending hostility of US imperialism. Our event was held to mark the anniversary of 27 July 1953, the date on which the DPRK inflicted a heroic and historic defeat on imperialism after the USA (along with Britain and 14 other belligerent nations under cover of a United Nations flag) launched a genocidal war of aggression that murdered millions of civilians, wiped out thousands of villages and destroyed every building in the capital Pyongyang that stood over one storey tall. All, of course, at the behest of the Wall Street financiers and their relentless anticommunist crusade. Yet the plans of the US-led imperialist bloc were overturned by the resistance and resilience of the people of north Korea, who not only successfully defended their young socialist republic but who have gone on to build an impressive socialist society in the teeth of decades of the relentless military and economic aggression. Comrade Yong Ri noted: “It is the unwavering foreign policy stance of the DPR Korea to firmly uphold the principles of struggle against the enemy (Anglo-American imperialism and its satellites), to strengthen the united front with all independent and anti-imperialist forces, and to wage a resolute struggle against imperialist aggression and war schemes. “Nowadays, unimaginable shocking events, beyond common sense, are taking place every day. Wars, bloodshed, political and economic destabilisation are becoming a daily occurrence. It is due to the gangster-like geopolitical greed, and misuse of force by the hegemonic forces. As a result, the inter-camp confrontation between the forces of domination and of independence is getting more fierce. “The high-handed practices of the US imperialists have had a destabilising impact upon its satellite forces and have further worsened the bloody situation in Europe and the middle east. “Today the world is witnessing a rampant resurgence of ultranationalism – the ‘America First’ policy, [Israeli] zionism and neo-nazism in Ukraine – reminiscent of a century ago when the world was involved in global wars. “Kim Jong Un emphasised: ‘We have neither the right nor the grounds to ignore the current complex situation and stark geopolitical reality.’” From the chair, Comrade Joti Brar thanked the DPRK for its firm stance in upholding the principles of socialist planning at home and socialist internationalism abroad, emphasising the sacrifices the DPRK’s citizens have made in order to build up their own defence forces as well as their domestic economy. She reminded us that this ability, combined with a firm understanding of imperialism, has allowed the DPRK not only to protect its own revolution from constant sabotage and attack, but also to work internationally to strengthen the anti-imperialist unity of targeted countries, extending active solidarity to countries like Russia and Iran who are also in the crosshairs of US aggression. Earlier in the meeting she had pointed out how the British government is in the forefront of trying to slander and vilify socialist Korea for having offered care and a respite to children from the war-torn Donbass who have had their childhoods ripped away by a decade of Nato’s war. https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/07/tv/north-korea-speaks-build-united-anti-imperialist-front/

A brilliant and impassioned speech given by Comrade Ismara Vargas Walter, Cuban ambassador to the UK and Ireland, at our party’s spirited celebration of the international anti-imperialist struggle. Party chair Joti Brar gives an introduction to Comrade Ismara, and makes some piercing observations in response, outlining the scope and significance of the anti-imperialist struggle and the vital role that must be played by workers in Britain for that struggle to meet with ultimate success. Comrade Ismara draws attention to the 100th birth anniversary of Fidel Castro, leader and inspirer of the Cuban Revolution, and to the storming of the Moncada Barracks on 26 July 1953 – the operation, led by Fidel, which triggered the revolution. Although that heroic assault on the fortress of US comprador Fulgencio Batista failed, it led to the trial of Fidel and his comrades, which Fidel turned into a tribunal of the reactionary and dictatorial regime. “History will absolve me!” declared Fidel, at the conclusion of his epic speech of defence. And on 1 January 1959, the revolutionary forces led by Fidel, his brother Raúl Castro and their comrade Che Guevara victoriously entered Havana, ushering in the rule of the working people and the dawn of a socialist era in Latin America. The US imperialists have never forgiven the people of Cuba for breaking free of their grip. Still today, it is their earnest desire to restore their brothels, casinos, beach-front mansions and latifundia, to restore the domination of monopolies, exercised through their brutal and corrupt mafiosi stooges, and to reduce the local population once more to low-paid exploitation fodder for their profit-taking machinery. Despite the vicious sanctions regime – which has been intensified to fever pitch by the vindictive and unstable Trump regime – and the special economic measures that the Cubans have had to take to withstand those sanctions, Cuba stands firm, on the front line of the anti-imperialist struggle. Comrade Ismara makes it clear that, just as we have seen in Gaza and Iran in recent years, the response of the people to the intensification of the pressure by external forces has been to strengthen their resolve and reinforce and heighten their unity. We must all do more to force our rulers into lifting their criminal siege on socialist Cuba: the hope of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples, and a beacon of humanity’s bright, humane, just and rational socialist future. This meeting was held on Saturday 25 July in Southall, west London. Also speaking were Comrade Yong Ri from the embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and CPGB-ML general secretary Ranjeet Brar. https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/04/tv/cuban-ambassador-cuba-gaza-resistance-stands-firm/

We should not look at what happened on Townsend Lane and think it was simply an unfortunate incident, because it wasn’t. It is the natural conclusion of decades of profit extraction. The industry disappeared, the jobs disappeared with it, investment followed and now the buildings themselves are beginning to crumble. https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/04/news/another-building-collapses-anfield-liverpool/

France’s continuing prosperity and ability to maintain itself as a ‘leading’ country in the world is reliant on the relentless plunder of its former colonies – and it has set up a complex web of financial, political and military mechanisms to ensure the steady flow of loot from west and central African lands into Parisian coffers. The emergence of a sovereign Sahel has seriously undermined this arrangement, and France’s imperialist economy is suffering badly as a result. Meanwhile, the desperate attempts to recover this lost paradise are receiving considerable help from France’s imperialist allies. In March, 800 French military personnel arrived in the port of Mombasa aboard three warships. They have been gifted a permanent base there by the Nato-allied regime in Nairobi, meaning that Kenya now has three imperialist occupation forces on its territory. https://thecommunists.org/2026/08/01/news/theory/exploitation-africa-french-neocolonialism/
