Dear Students, We would like to inform you about the new ASC courses that will be introduced this Fall semester. Details about the Academic Success Center itself will follow soon. For incoming students If you entered the university with an IELTS score below 6.5, you will be required to take ASC 100 (Advanced English for Academic Purposes). This requirement also applies to students who completed NUFYP. Your IELTS score at the time of enrollment in the NUFYP will be used for course placement. If your IELTS score is 6.5 or above, you will be required to take ASC 200 (Academic Writing, Science Communication, and Media Literacy). This course counts toward your new Core Curriculum requirements (we will post more about it later!). It includes academic writing, communication, presentation skills, and visual projects. For continuing students who have not yet passed WCS 150, you will be offered the ASC 100/WCS 150 course. Its content will be identical to that of ASC 100 and will satisfy your handbook requirements. For continuing students who have not yet passed WCS 2x0 but have passed WCS 150, you will be offered the ASC 200/WCS 210 course. Its content will be identical to that of ASC 200. WCS 210 is used as the second code, as it completes the handbook requirement for all students. Overall, continuing students will not experience major changes to their handbooks. If you have already taken any WCS 2x0 course, you will not be able to take ASC 200. We were warned that there will most likely be a shortage of seats for ASC 200 this year. ASC is doing its best to enroll as many students as possible, but some majors will be prioritized in Fall, others in Spring, and some may even have to wait until next year. We will continue to communicate with ASC to ensure that no student’s academic progress is at risk. Revised tutoring courses This Fall, the Academic Success Center will introduce two new courses that are similar to Writing Fellows programme: ASC 300 and ASC 301. If you have already taken any Writing Fellows course (WCS 39x), you will be eligible to take this course. In later semesters, enrollment will require a very high grade in ASC 200 (A-/A) and a high CGPA, as applicants will be screened. Other notes This academic year, ASC will not offer any electives. Next year, two electives may be introduced: Public Speaking and Writing for Digital Media. It is likely that only students who have passed ASC 200 will be able to take them (students who passed old WCS 2x0 courses will not), and you will need a very good grade in ASC 200 to enroll. All courses will appear soon in the Registrar system, along with the faculty of the new center. Best, Ministry of Education

Dear Students, Student Government welcomes the clarification from university that the reported information about the mandatory student fee of 110,000 KZT was not confirmed. 👍 Here is the official response we received from the Press Office: Касательно информации о введении студенческого сервисного платежа Nazarbayev University в ответ на Ваш запрос относительно распространяемой в социальных сетях информации о введении обязательного ежегодного студенческого взноса сообщает, что данная информация не соответствует действительности. На сегодняшний день Университет не принимал решений о введении каких-либо дополнительных обязательных платежей или взносов для студентов. From the beginning, SG stated that the information circulating publicly had not been formally confirmed by the university. Because the hypothetical fee could have created a significant financial burden and academic consequences, and because SG had not been formally informed or consulted, we considered it our responsibility to establish a strong student position and seek urgent clarification. Thank you to the students who supported the petition. The petition demonstrated that students expect transparency and meaningful representation in such decisions. SG will close the current petition. We will continue working with the administration and advancing student representation on all matters. 😘 We are glad that the concern has been resolved and will share any further verified information with students. Warmest regards, Student Government 💙
To make it easier for everyone to stay informed, we have created a Telegram chat where we will share all updates regarding the Student Government's initiative against the proposed mandatory fee, including updates on the petition and any further developments. Dear Students, Student Government is aware of public reports regarding the possible introduction of a mandatory student fee of 110,000 KZT and its potential connection to course registration. At no point has Student Government been formally consulted on this matter. We have also been never formally informed. We understand that a financial requirement of this scale, introduced on such short notice, would directly affect students and their families. We are especially concerned by reports that nonpayment could restrict course registration, which may create serious academic consequences under current registration requirements. Student Government believes that no major mandatory student fee should be introduced without reasonable notice, transparent justification, payment flexibility, and meaningful student representation in the decision-making process. We are urgently seeking clarification from university leadership on: 1. Whether the fee has been approved. 2. Which students would be required to pay and in what amount. 3. Whether registration access would be restricted for nonpayment. 4. What legal basis supports the fee. 5. How the amount was calculated. 6. What exemptions, appeals, or payment options would exist. 7. How the collected funds would be used. In conversations, Student Government will call on university leadership to suspend any implementation of this fee for the upcoming academic year and to ensure that students are not blocked from registration while these questions remain unresolved. To demonstrate the collective stance of the Student Body, we have prepared the official petition. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1193H3C52HgcdnQaM_a_7nQBfpDclwLlijg1CcGlRCQ0/edit?usp=sharing Please familiarize yourself with the text and sign it if you support our position. Your signature is essential to ensure our voice is heard by the university administration. https://forms.gle/Wuw6UtfjMLaiHwW3A We will continue to update you based on verified information we receive. Sincerely, Student Government
Dear Students, We have received concerns regarding the recent changes to the campus security perimeter, including the removal of gates near Block B1, the relocation of car barriers, and the removal of several turnstiles. As we understand now, this is part of a broader administrative plan that may include other changes in the security perimeter in the future. We have raised our concerns with the administration and will continue to seek clear answers on why these changes are being made, how student safety will be protected, what future actions are planned, and how student concerns will be addressed. 😶 Therefore, we ask all students to complete the survey we shared earlier. Your responses will directly support our discussions with the administration and help demonstrate the scale and seriousness of student concerns. https://forms.gle/cZKbAHaPYtrXDHR39 Warmest regards, Student Government 💙

Dear Students, We recently met with the Bursar’s Office to discuss pressing issues related to stipends: 🎅The stipend lists were submitted by the Bursar’s Office and are being processed by other departments. You should receive your stipends by June 23 at the latest, as this date is specified in the university regulations. 🎅Travel compensation (дорожка) documents are ready on the Bursar’s side. However, the university has not yet received funds from the government. Once financing is secured, the compensations will be paid. 🎅There is no information about a stipend increase for the next semester. 🎅The August stipend is likely to be delayed, as it usually is, especially due to the transition to the new Student Information System. We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. 👋 Warm regards, Student Government 💙
Dear Students, My name is Zarina Abuova, and this is my first official announcement as the Student Government President. It is a great honor for me to represent your interests and advocate on your behalf. 👍 To start off our term with one of the most pressing concerns: throughout the academic year, especially in the past couple of months, we have seen and heard about many incidents that may be linked to the implementation of the Accessible (Open) Campus policy at our university. We plan to share these concerns with senior administration soon. While we cannot yet promise changes to university policy, we will continue the work started by previous cabinets to raise concerns related to student safety and well-being on campus. We invite you to complete this survey to share your feedback on the policy and suggest new ideas. We also encourage you to describe any specific incidents you experienced on campus that you believe could have been avoided without this policy. https://forms.gle/cZKbAHaPYtrXDHR39 Thank you for your time! 😉 Yours sincerely, Zarina Abuova 💙 Student Government President, 2026-2027

Dear Students, My term as the President of the Student Government has officially come to an end! A year ago, when I was entrusted by the student body to serve as SG President, I could not have imagined the scale of achievements and challenges this year would bring. Writing this final post, I feel a sense of gratitude and quiet fulfillment. Recently, I looked back at my calendar and realized that I had spent more than 700 hours on Student Government work this year - meetings, university committees, reviewing documents, organizing projects, and responding to student concerns. If I had to summarize this year in numbers, together we: - Organized 7 large-scale and 50 small-scale events - Participated in 100+ meetings outside SG - Published content that reached over 900,000 social media views - Resolved 180 academic cases and addressed 50+ residential issues - Secured 52 partnerships and collaborated with 27 NU clubs - Updated 7 major documents and oversaw 32 misconduct hearings - Represented students in university-level committees, hiring interviews, and national-level initiatives. You can view our Annual Report here. To every student who trusted us, supported us, criticized us, shared ideas with us, or simply believed in Student Government - thank you. Your voices shaped every step we took. And to my dearest Student Government team of 2025-2026: it was truly my honor and privilege to serve this community alongside you. I would also like to wish the next SG President, Zarina Abuova, and her team the very best of luck and a successful year ahead! Thank you for allowing me to serve this community ❤️ Sincerely and with love, Balgyn Orazaly SG President 2025-2026

The concerns raised in your letter have been carefully reviewed by the University administration, and the attached response reflects the University's position and clarifications on the matters presented. As Student Government, we will continue to monitor how these commitments are carried out.
