One of the qualities that a student of knowledge should strive to have is حسن السمت — carrying oneself with good conduct and dignity. And husn al-samt leads to haybah (هيبة) in the hearts of people. When a person carries himself with this dignity and presence, his words are more likely to reach the hearts of others, because people know that he does not speak unnecessarily, but speaks when there is a need to speak. Our tajwid shaykh, Shaykh Wisām al-Harbawī: When it comes to encouraging their children to seek knowledge, parents generally fall into one of these four categories: 1. Negligent parents with a negligent child. Such a child is unlikely to attain much knowledge. 2. Diligent parents with a negligent child. Such a child may acquire some knowledge, but only with difficulty and reluctance. 3. Negligent parents with a diligent child. Such a child may attain knowledge if Allah blesses him with someone to guide him to the right path. 4. Diligent parents with a diligent child. This is the ideal situation. Such a child is likely to excel, and his achievements in seeking knowledge can be truly remarkable. @zaidghazali00

From the Fiqh of the Salaf The truly intelligent person is not the one who memorises the most, nor the one who argues the best. Rather, the truly intelligent person is the one who recognises the truth and follows it, recognises falsehood and avoids it. Whoever sees the path of guidance and follows it, and sees the path of deviation and turns away from it, then Allah has indeed granted him beneficial intellect. The Salaf considered the fruit of true intellect to be: fearing Allah, making sound choices, striving against one’s desires, and adhering to the Sunnah. They also held that whoever recognises goodness but then turns away from it, or recognises evil yet pursues it, has diminished his intellect, even if he is highly knowledgeable. @zaidghazali00

Islam melarang hoarding, berlebih-lebihan mengumpulkan perabot atau kelengkapan rumah yang sebenarnya tidak diperlukan. Janganlah jadi kawan syaitan. Daripada Jābir bin ʿAbdillah, Rasulullah ﷺ bersabda: فراش للرجل، وفراش لأهله، والثالث للضيف، والرابع للشيطان "Satu tempat tidur untuk seorang lelaki, satu tempat tidur untuk isterinya, yang ketiga untuk tetamu, dan yang keempat adalah untuk syaitan." [Muslim 2084] Mengenai maksud hadith ini, penulis ʿAwn al-Maʿbūd berkata: ( فراش للرجل ) : أي فراش واحد كاف للرجل ( والرابع للشيطان ) : قال [ ص: 157 ] النووي : معناه أن ما زاد على الحاجة فاتخاذه إنما هو للمباهاة والالتهاء بزينة الدنيا ، وما كان بهذه الصفة فهو مذموم وكل مذموم يضاف إلى الشيطان لأنه يرتضيه ويحسنه وقيل إنه على ظاهره وإنه إذا كان لغير حاجة كان للشيطان عليه مبيت ومقيل "Satu tempat tidur bagi lelaki" bermaksud satu katil sudah mencukupi bagi seorang lelaki. Mengenai sabda Baginda ﷺ "yang keempat adalah untuk syaitan", Imam al-Nawawī menjelaskan: Maksudnya, tempat tidur yang melebihi keperluan kebiasaannya diambil semata-mata untuk bermegah-megah dan berseronok dengan perhiasan dunia. Perbuatan seperti ini adalah tercela, dan setiap perkara yang tercela dinisbahkan kepada syaitan kerana syaitan meredainya dan menghiasinya agar kelihatan baik. Ada juga ulama yang memahami hadis ini secara literal, iaitu jika tempat tidur itu disediakan tanpa sebarang keperluan, maka ia menjadi tempat syaitan bermalam dan berehat. [ʿAwn al-Maʿbūd (11/157)] Berkata al-Mudhhiri al-Hanafī: قوله: "الرابع للشيطان"؛ يعني: ما زاد على قدر الحاجة إسراف، والإسراف من فعل الشيطان Sabda Baginda ﷺ "yang keempat adalah untuk syaitan" bermaksud apa sahaja yang melebihi kadar keperluan adalah pembaziran, dan pembaziran merupakan amalan yang disukai syaitan. [Al-Mafātih Sharh al-Masābīh (5/8)] Pengajaran: 1. Hadith ini bukan hanya berkaitan tempat tidur. Para ulama menjelaskan bahawa ia juga melarang sikap berlebih-lebihan mengumpulkan perabot atau kelengkapan rumah yang tidak diperlukan. 2. Seorang Muslim hendaklah mencukupkan dirinya dengan apa yang benar-benar diperlukan dan menjauhi pembaziran. 3. Apa yang melebihi keperluan disifatkan sebagai "untuk syaitan", kerana pembaziran dan kemewahan yang melampau merupakan amalan yang disukai syaitan. 4. Hadith ini mengingatkan kita agar sentiasa berwaspada terhadap tipu daya syaitan yang mendorong manusia kepada pembaziran dan kecintaan berlebihan terhadap dunia. 5. Hadith ini bukan bermaksud suami isteri dianjurkan tidur berasingan. Tempat tidur yang berasingan hanya dibolehkan apabila ada keperluan seperti sakit atau keletihan. Secara asal, ia adalah sunnah bagi suami isteri berkongsi satu tempat tidur kerana ia lebih memupuk kasih sayang, kemesraan dan keharmonian rumah tangga. It teaches the correct understanding of husn al-dhann billāh (having good expectations of Allah), while cautioning against confusing genuine hope with false optimism (ghurūr) that is devoid of righteous action.    This seminar will explore the meanings and lessons of this hadith through a phrase-by-phrase explanation, highlighting the virtues of remembering Allah, making du'a, placing one’s trust in Him, believing in His decree, and striving in obedience with hope in His mercy and forgiveness.
