  • Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: "The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but the strong man is in fact the one who controls himself in a fit of rage." [al-Bukhari and Muslim, Riyad as-Salihin, 646]

  • Ibn al-Jawzi ‎رحمه الله: “From the most interesting things is the alertness of the dying person at the time of his death—for he becomes perceptive to a degree which cannot be described, and worried to an extent that has no limits. And he yearns for his times of old, and wishes that he be left so that he can make up for what passed him by, and so that he can be truthful in his repentance in accordance with the level of certainty he now has about death. And he, out of grief, almost kills his own soul before its [actual] death. And if an atoms weight of these things were found at the time of health and well-being, everything that is intended by doing pious deeds would be achieved. So the intellectual one is he who pictures that hour and acts according to what it requires. And if he is not able to do that, then he visualises it as much as he is able to, for it will prevent desire’s hand, and will arouse seriousness/earnestness in him.” [Saidul-Khaatir, pg. 263]

  • Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه: “Fill your homes with light as much as you can. For a house in which the Qur’ān is recited becomes spacious and comfortable for its people, its goodness increases, the angels attend it, and the devils abandon it. But a house in which the Qur’ān is not recited becomes constricted for its people, its goodness decreases, the angels abandon it, and the devils attend it.” [Sunan al-Dārimī, Hadith 3352]

  • Ubaadah Ibn as-Saamit ‏رضي الله عنه: "The World will be brought on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said: Separate (all) what was (done) from it for (the sake of) Allāh (alone). And it will (all) separate. Then (it will be) said: Throw the rest of it into the fire." [Kitab az-Zuhd al-Wak’ee رحمه الله 362]

  • يقول الشاعر: العلم يرفع بيت لا عماد له والجهل يهدم بيت العز والشرف Knowledge will raise a house that has no support, and ignorance will destroy a house of might and honor.

  • Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله: "Whoever has wronged you and then comes to you apologising, humility requires that you accept his apology, whether it is truthful or not, and leave what is in his heart to Allāh. A sign of generosity and humility is that if you notice a flaw in his apology, you neither expose it nor hold it against him." [Madarij As-Salikin, 2/338]

  • Son of Adam, you seek the world as if your very life depended on it and you seek the Hereafter as if you have no need of it! You will acquire what you need from this world even if you do not run after it, but you will only attain the Hereafter if you run after it. So be aware of your true condition! [The Journey Of The Strangers, p. 67]

  • The Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “There is no believing servant except that he has a sin which he falls into from time to time, or a sin that he persists upon and does not part from until he departs this world. Indeed, the believer was created prone to trial, ever-repenting, and forgetful. When he is reminded, he remembers.” [Saḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ, no. 5735]

  • Your soul was not created for hours of distraction and five rushed conversations with Allāh.

  • The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: “Among the happiness of the son of Adam is to be satisfied with what Allāh has decreed for him. Among the misery of the son of Adam is to abandon asking Allāh for guidance, and among the misery of the son of Adam is displeasure with what Allāh has decreed for him.” [Sunan al-Tirmidhi: 2151] Grade: Sahih

  • Al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ رحمه الله: « التواضع أن تخضع للحق وتنقاد له، ولو سمعته من صبي قبلته منه، ولو سمعته من أجهل الناس قبلته منه » “Humility is to submit to the truth and accept it, even if you hear it from a child; and even if you hear it from the most ignorant of people, you still accept it from them.” [Al-Tawāḍuʿ wa al-Khumūl (p. 118)]

  • Shaykh Bin Bāz رحمه الله: "Indeed, it has been confirmed that the Prophet ﷺ would fast the day of 'Āshūrā, and he would encourage people to fast it because it was the day that Allāh rescued Musā and his people, and it was the day that Allāh destroyed Fir'aun. Therefore, it is recommended for every Muslim, male and female to fast this day out of gratitude to Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic. And it is the tenth day of al-Muḥarram." [مجموع فتاوى الشيخ ابن باز ١٥/٣٩٩]

  • Once read a comment that said: “I was married to a student of Islamic knowledge, yet he constantly reminded me of my illness and made me feel like a burden. That experience taught me one lesson: never be deceived by titles, appearances, or reputation. Look at a person's character, for that is what you will live with every day.” You do not need more than a sensible husband with good character, who establishes the five daily prayers, earns from halal sources, and has a connection with the Qur'an and worship. Remove from your list the conditions that social media has filled your mind with. There are homes filled with oppression, abuse, and misery despite an abundance of beards, Islamic texts, certificates, and titles. And there are homes filled with mercy, tranquillity, and kindness among ordinary Muslims who may never have studied advanced Islamic sciences, yet understand what it means to fear Allāh and treat others well. A person's books, certificates, and reputation do not guarantee a successful marriage if they do not act upon what they know. So look first at their character, manners, and religion before looking at their memorization, status, or popularity. The title of “Shaykh” will not lessen the pain of oppression. Knowledge alone will not benefit others if it is not accompanied by good character. A long beard will not show mercy if the heart is harsh and the tongue is hurtful. Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله: "If the seeker of knowledge does not display virtuous character and good manners, then his pursuit of knowledge is futile." [شرح حلية طالب العلم، للشيخ محمد بن صالح العثيمين رحمه الله | ص ٨] A man is not measured by what he knows, but by how he lives. And the real test of a person's religion is often found in the way they treat those under their care when no one is watching. Anyone can speak about good character. The real test is living by it. • Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq رضي الله عنه: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الْكَبَائِرَ فَلَا تَيْأَسُوا، وَيُعَذِّبُ عَلَى الصَّغَائِرِ فَلَا تَغْتَرُّوا» “Indeed, Allāh forgives major sins, so do not despair; and He punishes for minor sins, so do not become complacent.” [Sharḥ Sahih al-Bukhārī by Ibn Baṭṭāl (10/203)]

  • The Virtue of the Month of Allāh, Muharram. The Prophet ﷺ was asked: "Which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers, and which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?" He (ﷺ) said: "The best prayer after the prescribed prayer is prayer in the middle of the night (tahajjud), and the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allāh, Muharram." [Sahih Muslim 1163 (2756)]

  • ‎*ساعة الاستجابة* (The hour of acceptance) The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: “Friday is twelve hours in which there is no Muslim slave who asks Allāh for something except that He will grant it, so seek it in the last hour after 'Asr." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 1389]

“If you live in a time in which people are content with speech without action, and with knowledge without implementation, then know that you are in the worst of times among the worst of people.” [Ibṭāl al-Ḥiyal: (1/34)]

  • The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: “Verily you will never leave anything for the sake of Allāh but that Allāh will replace it with something better for you.” [Musnad Ahmad 23074] Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله: “Whoever abandons something for the sake of Allāh, Allāh will compensate him with something better than it. Thus Yusuf عليه السلام abandoned the wife of al Aziz for the sake of Allāh and chose imprisonment over indecency. Allāh compensated him by granting him authority in the land so that he could settle therein wherever he wished. Thereafter the woman came to him humbled asking and longing for lawful union and he married her. When he consummated the marriage with her he said, “This is better than what you used to desire." And when Sulayman عليه السلام killed the horse that had distracted him from the Asr prayer until the sun had set, Allāh subjected the wind to him carrying him upon it wherever he wished. And when the Companions left their homes and land for the sake of Allāh. Allāh compensated them by opening the world to them and granting them dominion over the east and the west of the earth. "And whoever fears Allāh, He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." [65:2–3] This is Allāh's way with His servants in former times and in later times until the Day of Resurrection. [Rawdat al Muhibbin wa Nuzhat al Mushtagin Pg. 457]

  • When Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ was besieged in Syria and the enemy was closing in on him, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭab sent him a letter that said: "Whatever hardship has come your way, Allāh will follow it with relief. No single hardship can ever overcome two eases. ‘Be patient, more patient (than your enemies), stand guard, and be mindful of Allāh, so that you may prosper.’" [Ibn Abī al-Dunya, Al-Faraj, p. 45]
