Between January 2024 and July 2026, the UN verified that 174 Palestinian children were killed—equating to "more than one child every week"—while more than 1,500 were injured, nearly half by live ammunition. The briefing detailed profound systemic impacts, noting that over 800,000 children face barriers to education due to infrastructure damage, movement restrictions, and over 900 new checkpoints or barriers imposed across the territory in recent years. UNICEF warned that at least 355 Palestinian children from the West Bank are currently held in Israeli military detention—the highest number in eight years—with nearly half detained without charge or trial under administrative detention amid reports of severe abuse and degrading conditions. UNICEF outlined four urgent demands for the Council: protecting children under international law, ending forced displacement, safeguarding access to essential services and education, and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian operations.
