⚡️Two Majors #Overview #Summary as of August 16, 2026 ▪️A year ago (August 15, 2025), a meeting between Supreme Leader Trump took place in Anchorage. Since then, the conflict in Ukraine has only escalated. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Moscow is ready for negotiations, but only with external involvement, as Kiev is not capable of guaranteeing the fulfillment of any agreements on its own. Currently, Ukraine's proposal for a partial ceasefire in the Black Sea has been rejected, as it is seen as an attempt to gain a respite. On the international front, in the Kuril Islands the Supreme Leader stated his readiness to target Western naval vessels in response to piracy against our merchant fleet. Japan, in turn, reacted sharply to the Russian President's visit to the Russian islands: Prime Minister Sanae Takaiti called the visit "absolutely unacceptable," and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador and presented a protest note. Moscow, for its part, reiterated that the Kuril Islands are Russian territory. ▪️The Russian Armed Forces continue their systematic work on ports in the Greater Odessa region and the Danube terminals. On August 14-15, a fuel depot in the port of Yuzhny, a patrol boat, and a warehouse of military equipment in Odessa, as well as infrastructure in Izmail, were hit. In the first 12 days of August, Ukraine exported approximately 590,000 tons of grain, which is only about 30% of the required volume. Railway deliveries of grain to ports have decreased by 84%. Simultaneously, precision strikes are being carried out on "Ukrzaliznytsia" locomotives: during the week, two thermal locomotives were hit in the Odessa region, one in the morning (a passenger train) and one during the day (a shunting locomotive). ▪️Against this backdrop, Ukraine has almost exhausted its reserves of anti-aircraft missiles (SAMs) for Patriot systems. According to Western media, citing Ukrainian officials, in recent weeks, air defense systems have been unable to use Patriot to intercept ballistic missile strikes due to a lack of ammunition. In a number of massive attacks (including on August 1 and 5), no more than one missile was shot down out of dozens. ▪️Ukraine is responding with strikes on Russian ports (including Novorossiysk), which also disrupts our exports and drives up global grain prices. ▪️A new wave of fuel shortages is being observed in Russia, caused by strikes on oil refineries by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Problems are reported in at least 18 regions (Krasnodar Krai, Orenburg Oblast, Lipetsk Oblast, Kaluga Oblast, Tula Oblast, Tambov Oblast, Primorsky Krai, etc.). Limits of 20-40 liters have been imposed, a "odd-even" system is in place, and the sale of fuel in canisters is prohibited. There are queues and some gas stations are completely out of fuel. Compared to June, the crisis then affected more than two-thirds of the regions, and gasoline production fell by approximately 25%. ▪️On the front lines, the most significant advances are being made in the Druzhkovka direction: our units (33rd Regiment, 150th Motorized Rifle Division) continue their steady advance. The enemy has been practically driven out of Rayskoye ("the gates to Druzhkovka"), and Novo Grigorovka, Novo Nikolaevka, and Petrovka have been captured/cleared. There have been successes in outlying areas of Alexevo-Drushovni. Kazenny Torets has been crossed. There is almost no civilian population left in Druzhkovka, and multi-story buildings are being destroyed with FABs. Fire control has been intensified over the roads leading to Kramatorsk. At the same time, Ukrainian Armed Forces and their information resources are spreading the narrative of the "liberation" of dozens of settlements in the area of responsibility of the "Vostok" Joint Forces Command. In reality, units of "Vostok" are liberating settlements (Rybalskoye, etc.) and inflicting damage on enemy assault and assault-desant brigades. This is a classic disinformation operation by the enemy, designed to create the illusion of success. ▪️The enemy is increasingly using the tactic of drones flying above 1 km, as well as aerostat-based complexes that fly (Hornet and similar) to significant altitudes. This allows them to save resources on altitude gain, increase range, and avoid the effective range of mass low-altitude means (FPV interceptors "Yolka," small arms, and electronic warfare systems). Experts directly link this to a shortage of a sufficient number of cheap, specialized means of destroying small, high-altitude targets: it is not rational to use expensive SAMs on mass, cheap drones, and low-altitude interceptors and electronic warfare systems work poorly at high altitudes. Our forces are increasing the production of drone interceptors, but the quantitative gap remains. The negotiation track remains a sham until Kiev and its Western patrons are forced to take into account the reality on the front lines. ✨ Systematic strikes on the enemy's port and railway logistics are already having a measurable economic effect. The conditions are being created for further pressure on the Kramatorsk–Slavyansk agglomeration. At the same time, drone strikes by Ukraine, against the backdrop of a wastefully spent time organizing air defense, are creating unpleasant economic consequences for Russia, whose budget is not fully replenished by the protracted special military operation. The war has definitively turned into a total war of attrition, and finding the ultimate countermeasure against long-range drones will give a clear advantage. Die Welt is sceptical about the prospects of producing PAC-3 missiles in Ukraine, as Lockheed Martin fears a leak of classified information to Russia or China. Experts consider it more likely that less advanced PAC-2 interceptors from Raytheon could be produced outside the U.S. The U.S. has licensed their production in Germany; construction of the plant in Schrobenhausen began in November 2024 and is scheduled for completion this autumn. Ukrainian diplomats believe that obtaining missiles from this plant is the quickest way to resolve the issue.
