Greece recorded an increase in births in the first three months of 2026, with the share of babies born to Greek mothers also rising. At the same time, illegal sea arrivals fell 27%, from 16,985 to 12,496, while migrant returns increased 20% and forced deportations jumped 41%. The sharpest decline involved Egyptian nationals, whose arrivals fell 72%, from around 2,800 to 800. Returns of Egyptian citizens nearly quadrupled, from 59 to 227. Since February, another 599 migrants have voluntarily returned to their countries rather than serve prison sentences for immigration-related offenses under the government’s new “prison or return” policy. Irish tradesman Séamus Ó Cruadhlaoich, who recently converted to Islam, has sparked controversy after being photographed performing an Islamic prayer directly in front of a temporary Jewish memorial to the 15 people killed in the Bondi Beach massacre last December. Ó Cruadhlaoich had just completed Sydney’s 14-kilometer City2Surf race on Sunday and was wearing a race bib reading “Free Palestine”, along with a running top displaying the Palestinian, Irish and Aboriginal flags. He then knelt to pray in front of the menorah-shaped memorial in Bondi’s Archer Park. Ó Cruadhlaoich: “I talked to Allah and prayed for peace and harmony within all communities and all society all over the world.” Australian Jewish Association president Robert Gregory condemned the incident, saying the Jewish community was still mourning and questioning why an anti-Israel activist wearing political messaging would choose to position himself beside the memorial. Gregory said the incident had “caused distress to victims of the Bondi attack.” Subscribe Visegrád24
A Paris court has convicted six men from Ivory Coast and Mali over a series of organized thefts targeting clothing stores across the Île-de-France region, which includes Paris and its surrounding suburbs, causing an estimated €500,000 in losses over two years, with Zara, Pull&Bear, Bershka and H&M among the stores targeted. The men often operated in pairs, using bags lined with aluminum, effectively Faraday cages, to prevent security tags from triggering store alarms. In other cases, they simply grabbed bags of clothing and ran, a tactic investigators dubbed the “kamikaze method.” Subscribe Visegrád24

A May 2026 report on Muslim Brotherhood-linked organizations in Italy says Qatar has been the network’s principal source of foreign state financing, channeling tens of millions of euros into mosques and Islamic institutions. According to the report, Qatar Charity, operating in Europe through Nectar Trust, funded 45 projects worth €50 MILLION in Italy, more than in any other European country. The main beneficiary was UCOII, described in the report as Italy’s leading Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization. Former UCOII president Izzeddin Elzir acknowledged that the organization received at least €30 MILLION from the Qatari funding. Qatar Charity financed 43 UCOII-affiliated mosques, including construction projects in Bergamo and Ravenna and projects at existing Islamic centers in Rome, Piacenza and elsewhere. The report’s overall assessment is that Qatar and Kuwait have been the principal foreign funding sources for Muslim Brotherhood-linked organizations in Italy, with Qatar Charity alone transferring approximately €50 million to projects in the country. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham says middle-class areas must “play their part” in housing asylum seekers after residents of Piddington, a village of around 400 people, revolted against plans to accommodate up to 1,250 male asylum seekers next to their town. Piddington residents voted 96% in favor of a symbolic “independence” referendum in July in protest at the plans. Local children have even written directly to Burnham, with one seven-year-old saying he fears he will no longer be able to visit his sister’s grave in the village. One mother warned residents would be so heavily outnumbered that the plan would “change our lives completely.” Subscribe Visegrád24

Antisemitism in British schools has reached the highest level ever recorded for the first half of a year, as a government-commissioned review warns Jewish children are facing a situation unlike that experienced by other communities in Britain. Jewish pupils face “regular harassment and abuse,” with some Jewish school heads spending more time on security than education. School antisemitism surged 59%, from 112 incidents in early 2025 to a record 178 in early 2026. One Jewish teenager described being told he “should be in a gas chamber,” while swastikas were drawn in classrooms and Nazi salutes became widespread at his school. Children as young as 12 and 13 at one Jewish school in London also reported regularly suffering abuse while traveling to school and on public transport. Subscribe Visegrád24

A 28-year-old Afghan refugee granted asylum in France has been placed under formal investigation on terrorism-related charges after authorities suspected him of preparing an Islamist terrorist attack. Awalkhan K. was arrested in Lourdes, the world-famous Catholic pilgrimage town in southwestern France visited by millions of pilgrims each year. Investigators suspect he secretly returned to Afghanistan in late 2025 despite having received asylum in France after claiming persecution by the Taliban. While there, he associated with Taliban members and received weapons and combat training. Photos show him carrying a Kalashnikov and ammunition and posing alongside Taliban fighters. After returning to France, he discussed armed jihad, becoming a “martyr” and “joining paradise,” while taking masked photographs outside landmarks, public buildings and religious sites, including the Eiffel Tower. His TikTok account, which had more than 16,000 followers, also promoted armed Islamist groups and presented jihad as an “obligation.” Subscribe Visegrád24
