Sacked ambassador to the UK on trial for ‘trespassing’ Burma’s ambassador to the U.K. stood trial ​in a London court on Wednesday, charged with trespassing at a diplomatic residence that ‌he refused to leave after being sacked by the regime and locked out of the embassy for opposing the 2021 military coup by calling for the release of jailed State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi. Ambassador Kyaw Zwar Minn has refused to ​leave the residence in London, where he still lives and was charged last ⁠year with trespass between May 2021 and November 2024. Minn, 68, says that Min Aung Hlaing, who seized power during the coup, is illegitimate and had no power to ask him to leave the property. British Prosecutor Louise Oakley said Minn had been recalled as ​ambassador in 2021 and was ordered to vacate the ambassador’s residence, known as Myanmar House. He was ⁠instructed to “hand over state-owned properties” by April 2021, with Britain’s Foreign Office also telling him that he had to leave the residence, but he did not comply. Regime resumes administration in Sagaing Region’s Khampat  Members of the regime’s Sagaing Region administration returned to Khampat Township on Aug. 5, to resume its operations in the town after it was recaptured by regime forces from the People’s Defence Force (PDF) on June 20, residents told DVB. “Regime forces are now repairing three bridges along the highway which were damaged during the fighting between the military and the PDF,” a Kalay resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity. The PDF in Sagaing is under the command of the National Unity Government (NUG). The regime wants to reopen the 81-mile (130 km) Kalay-Tamu highway, which connects Khampat with these two towns, once its administration has reestablished full control of operation. It regained control of strategic areas along the highway from the PDF on July 31, following fighting which began in June.  Read more on our website
