31 July 2026 Solemnity of Saint Ignatius of Loyola (Founder of Society of Jesus) St Ignatius, the Basque soldier turned “soldier of Christ”, was a man transformed by grace and life’s experiences. His “cannonball moment” at Pamplona in 1521 was a major catalyst in the radical reorientation of the trajectory of his life. The profound experience of conversion during his convalescence inspired the Spiritual Exercises, which, till today, offer us a timeless roadmap for “finding God in all things”. His spirituality invites us all to be deeply engaged with the work of God in the world – a “contemplation in action”. Today, the Society of Jesus (with its over 13,000 men—priests and brothers) and the whole Ignatian family continue to stay true to the Ignatian ideal. We are called to be “companions of Jesus”, to be “men and women for others”, ready to go wherever the needs are the greatest, in service of “the greater glory of God”. Novena to Saint Ignatius of Loyola 2026 25 July 2026 Day 4 - Men and Women for Others Reflect: In a 1973 address in Valencia, Spain, the Superior General of the Jesuits, Pedro Arrupe, called for the education and development of “men and women for others.” He called for “men and women who will live not for themselves but for God and His Christ, for the God-man who lived and died for all the world; men and women who cannot even conceive of love of God which does not include love for the least of their neighbors.” Thus, for Arrupe, to be men and women for others (including the least of our neighbors), we must first be men and women for Christ. St. Ignatius had an immense love for the life of Christ, as is evident in his Spiritual Exercises, and this love for Christ translated to an immense love for others. How can we better imitate St. Ignatius in our love for others and our desire for justice, for the sake of our love of Christ? PRAY: Open my heart to the Holy Spirit so He may illuminate my mind and heart, revealing the path that leads to greater service and love of God. Pray for me, St. Ignatius, and especially present the intention I bring to you now: (Mention your intentions here) Heavenly Father, hear my request brought to You by Your servant Ignatius, if it be for Your glory. Grant me the same grace that You gave to St. Ignatius so that I may share his zeal for Christ and for building up Your kingdom. St. Ignatius of Loyola, pray for us!

Novena to Saint Ignatius of Loyola 2026 24 July 2026 Day 3 - Examen REFLECT: The examen is a familiar prayer and classic component of Ignatian spirituality. It is a form of prayer that allows us to become as Ignatius himself was, a contemplative in action. Ignatius leads us through this general examination of conscience at the beginning of the Spiritual Exercises. It involves first reflecting and giving thanks for all that God has given us and the graces received. Next, Ignatius invites us to ask for the grace to know of and turn from our sins. Thirdly, Ignatius invites us to ask God “for an account of [our souls]” in regard to our thoughts, words, and deeds throughout the day. This is followed by asking for pardon for these sins and failings and finally, “to resolve, with his grace, to amend them.” Consider spending a moment halfway through your day or at the end of your day in quiet examination of conscience. Give to the Lord what you don’t want to hold on to, following the lead of St. Ignatius. Source: www.sourcecommunity.org
