Por que aceitaram meu ateísmo, mas se opuseram ao meu Islã? O Dr. George Saliba diz: “Durante anos, eu me perguntava: como Deus pode se encarnar em um ser humano e depois morrer? Eu ia à igreja em Beirute e perguntava aos sacerdotes, e a resposta era sempre: ‘Isso é um mistério divino, portanto, não pergunte sobre isso.’ Abandonei a fé cristã e declarei abertamente meu ateísmo durante 25 anos completos! O estranho é que, durante todo esse período, nunca sofri nenhum ataque. Pelo contrário, os sacerdotes e a sociedade aceitavam meu ateísmo como uma liberdade pessoal, e eu era querido entre eles, embora muitas vezes zombasse de algumas coisas mencionadas no Evangelho. Eu via os cristãos rirem e lidarem com isso com amor, como se eu não tivesse zombado de suas crenças. E, quando algum cristão vinha até mim e dizia: ‘Você é ateu, então não fale sobre o cristianismo!’, eu via outros cristãos responderem: ‘O Dr. George é livre. O que você tem a ver com isso? Ele é livre para viver a vida dele!’ Eles não tinham problema algum com o fato de uma pessoa ser ateia, ou até mesmo adorar vacas. Certo dia, enquanto caminhava pelas ruas de Beirute, entrei em uma região onde ninguém me conhecia e me vi diante de uma mesquita em uma sexta-feira. Entrei e me sentei, e aquele momento foi o choque e a comparação que mudaram minha vida! Na igreja, vi bancos e degraus determinados, além de uma atmosfera de reverência que separava o sacerdote dos fiéis. Já na mesquita, vi uma cena que me deixou maravilhado: o rico sentado ao lado do pobre, o médico ao lado do trabalhador, e todos sentados lado a lado sobre o tapete, iguais, sem distinções ou títulos. Todos se prostravam diante de um único Senhor, sem intermediários. Senti uma paz interior e uma sensação de grandeza que nunca havia experimentado em toda a minha vida. Mas o maior choque aconteceu quando anunciei minha conversão ao Islã! De repente, tudo mudou, e o amor e a aceitação se transformaram em raiva e ataques intensos. Comecei a me perguntar: ‘Como pude ser ateu durante 25 anos e ser amado e aceito, mas, quando encontro o caminho de Deus e do Islã, sou submetido a todos esses ataques?’ Continuei procurando uma explicação para esses ataques até que li um versículo do Alcorão que, como senti, explicava claramente tudo o que estava acontecendo comigo. É a palavra de Deus Todo-Poderoso: ﴾E, assim, fizemos para cada profeta inimigos: demônios dentre os humanos e os jinns, que inspiraram uns aos outros dito floreado, para se iludirem e, se teu Senhor quisesse, não o fariam. Então, deixa-os e ao que forjam.﴿ [Tradução do Alcorão / Al-An'aam : 112] Então compreendi a verdade. O versículo explica que a lei de Deus na Terra é a existência de uma luta entre a verdade e a falsidade, e que os inimigos da verdade podem cooperar para tornar a falsidade atraente e para desviar as pessoas. Enquanto eu era ateu e estava distante da religião, algumas pessoas me deixavam em paz e consideravam isso uma questão de liberdade pessoal. Mas, quando escolhi o caminho da fé e do Islã, começaram os ataques e as calúnias. Nesse momento, tive a certeza de que havia escolhido a verdadeira religião. Dr. George Saliba, é um historiador e matemático libanês, nascido em 1939, especialista em história da astronomia árabe e professor de ciências árabes e islâmicas no Departamento de Estudos do Oriente Médio, Sul da Ásia e África da Universidade Columbia, em Nova York, nos Estados Unidos, onde exerce suas atividades desde 1979.

L'équilibre de l'univers et de tout ce qu'il contient serait bouleversé. Il n'y aurait ni stabilité dans l'ordre du monde, ni vie. Les prétendus dieux chercheraient à dominer les uns sur les autres, et les créatures seraient perdues entre eux. « Allah ne S'est point attribué d'enfant et il n'existe point de divinité avec Lui ; sinon, chaque divinité s'en irait avec ce qu'elle a créés et certaines seraient supérieures aux autres. How can a Muslim be content to live for this religion on the margins of life? How can he enjoy comfort when he holds a momentous trust—one carried by the prophets, championed by callers and reformers, and sacrificed for by those who came before? Islam is far greater than being merely an identity we claim or rituals we perform for ourselves. It is a message we are entrusted to carry, a light we are meant to convey, and a trust for which we will be held accountable. How profound is our shortcoming when we compare the greatness of what we have been entrusted with to the little we have offered in its service. How many lives have passed without truly supporting this religion?
