Today, we commemorate the 8th anniversary of Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day. On August 25, 2017, the Myanmar military and government launched a so-called “clearance operation” and massacred thousands of Rohingya babies, children, women, including pregnant women, elders, people with disabilities, and men. They raped and gang-raped thousands of women and girls as young as 9 years old. They burned at least 390 villages to ashes and looted our properties. Within weeks, they forced the largest exodus in our history, and today, Bangladesh hosts more than one million Rohingya genocide survivors. But the Rohingya genocide did not begin in 2017. Myanmar began it in the early 1970s. What happened in 2017, however, was the largest and most brutal phase, carried out with terrifying speed. Every year, we commemorate this day and remind the world that the perpetrators still enjoy impunity and justice has not yet been delivered. Hey Arakan Army (AA), If you are innocent, there is no need to fear anything. You don't need to lie or try to cover up anything. However, since you are entirely responsible for the Htan Shauk Kan massacre, you have felt the necessity to plan and organize a cover-up. I have been writing about your plan because you have been discussing it since the 1st week of August. A handful of Rohingya survivors from the Htan Shauk Kan or Hoinya Seeri massacre were taken to meetings in different places. They were finally given a meal with beef, and they were forced to say on camera that the massacre did not happen. Then what? Do you really think the truth will disappear? This is a very foolish idea. There are forensic laboratories capable of analysing all the evidence. Do you honestly think that claiming there were a couple of helmets of Burmese soldiers will make all the skeletons of children and women disappear? This is a very foolish idea. Remember that you cannot use guns or threats to control some eyewitnesses and survivors of the massacre, because they are not in your area and you cannot force them to remain silent. In 2016-2017, all investigators already experienced tactics similar to your plans. You might try more propaganda, but you should remember one thing: you will never succeed because the truth remains the truth.
